Sunday 8th November 2009

This sunday saw the U13s play in the 3rd round of the Tesco Cup at home against Balby Academy of Sport from the Doncaster league. The opening exchanges saw both teams try to play football with both teams looking equally matched. As the game went on the weather got worse going from wind to rain to hale stones this made the game get hardeR for both teams but Norton Lees started to get on top and after creating a few opening a one two between forwards Roberts and Campbell saw Roberts brought down in the penalty box. The resulting penalty saw Norton Lees take the lead as Beaumont drove home this is how it stayed till half time.

Whiston Wildcats 0 - 5 NORTON LEES JUNIORS
Sunday 20th September saw the U13s begin there first season in the A league with an away trip to Whiston Wildcats. On a large pitch the lads seem to start a bit nervously in the opening exchanges but once they began to find their passes the lads soon took control of the game. Chances started to come on a regular basis and finally Campbell broke clear to finish with a left foot shot. The second soon followed, from a Beaumont free kick Whittle was on hand to slot home. Half time 0-2.

The second half started with the sun really shining but the rising temparture didn't slow down the work rate that the Norton Lees players were playing. The 2nd half continued like the 1st with chances a plenty. With 15 mins remaining another attack saw the ball fall to Burnell who on his league debut volleyed home with his left foot. The 4th goal of the game followed shortly after when a goal scramble finished with a Whiston player scoring an own goal. The final goal came near the final whistle with the goal of the game, Campbell picking up the ball on the half way line to run to the edge of the box before striking the ball into the roof of the net. Full time Whiston Wilcats 0 Norton Lees 5

Charnock Ridgeway 0 - 3 NORTON LEES JFC
Sunday 22nd February 2009

Returning back to action after another bout of cancellations and facing 11 games in 7 weeks, the U12s faced local rivals Charnock away. Kicking down hill and with the wind behind them Norton Lees started well keeping Charnock pinned in there own half. Constant pressure finally paid off with Campbell breaking down the left wing and crossing for Jones to poke the ball home. From one of Norton Lees numerous corners they finally doubled there lead, a scramble saw Campbell blast the ball home.
The second half saw Norton Lees battle hard against the elements and slope not giving Charnock a clear effort on goal. The hard work was rewarded 10 minutes from time with a fine driven shot from the edge of the box from Roberts.

Good solid performance,
Final score Charnock 0 Norton Lees 3.

NORTON LEES JFC 3 - 0 Handley Wood JFC
Sunday 28th December 2008

The fixture over the christmas period saw U12's playing Handley Wood at home. After 2 great results away from home the lads went into this game with plenty of confidance but with the pressure of being favourites to win. The game started as a scrappy affair on a heavy bogged pitch with all the play taking place in the middle of the pitch. Finally after 20 minutes Norton Lees settled down with 2 quick goals. First a Beaumont shot was saved by the goalkeeper with Roberts following up to open the scoring. This was followed by good determenation by Taylor to win the ball on the edge of Handley Woods box and ride a couple of tackles to place the ball home. The second half saw a better solid display from the home team but only 1 goal to show for their good work. This came from Campbell from a Beaumont free kick. A good 3-0 result to finish the year for the U12's

Darfield JFC 1 - 9 NORTON LEES JFC
Sunday 30th November 2008

On a cold freezing day Norton Lees U12's travelled to Darfield not only to get a win but hopefully get the season going having not played on two consecutive weekends. On a long sloping pitch Norton Lees kicked up the hill in the 1st half. A strong dominating start saw Darfield pinned in their own half, this finally resulted in Greg Whittle opening the scoring. The match continued in the same vain and Whittle raced clear to make it 2-0. Darfield then came into the game and a slip led to them pulling a goal back. This only spurred Norton Lees on and two free kicks from Beaumont gave Norton Lees a 4-1 half time lead. The second half started like the first with Darfield pinned in there own half. A Yeardley header started the 2nd half scoring. The rest of the match continued in the same pattern as before, Norton Lees attacking and Darfield defending. Further goals from Jones 2, Roberts and Westran to finish off a comprehinsive win and give Norton Lees everything they deserved. A great all round performance of hard work, passing and finishing.

NORTON LEES JFC 4-1 Beighton Magpies
The cup draw for the under 12 was a home tie against the top of the 'C' league side Beighton Magpies. The game had a slow start to it with not a lot happening, this wasn't helped by the fact that the opposition played with five at the back and were not attempting to go foward. After 10 minutes the first effort on goal saw Beighton hitting a post, this seemed to kick Norton Lees into action and constant pressure finally paid of with Campbell opening the scoring for Norton. Minutes later a Beaumont corner resulted in a bullet from Yeardley to make it 2-0. On the stroke of half time a Beaumont free kick made it 3-0.

Half Time
NORTON LEES JFC 3 - 0 Beighton Magpies

The second half saw Norton Lees having attack on attack then out of the blue Beighton pulled a goal back. Norton Lees continued to play some neat football, this resulted with a Campbell cross and a side foot finish from Roberts to continue his goal a game record( hope this is not the kiss of death) Final Score 4-1.

NORTON LEES JFC 3 - 4 Hillsborough Pumas
Our first game at home this season saw us playing Hillsboro Pumas. The opening 20 minutes saw attack after attack but chances being missed for Norton Lees. Finally Roberts opened the scoring for Norton Lees after good work from Cambell, but instead of settling the home team down lapses in concentration gave the visitors a 2-1 within minutes. Good work from Roberts led to Cosgrove equalising on the stroke of half time.

HALF TIME
NORTON LEES JFC 2 - 2 Hillsbro' Pumas

The second half was a bit of a scrapy affair with chances at a minimum until a shot from outside the box saw Whittle score his 4th goal in 3 games. Hillsboro then put Norton Lees under constant pressure and this finally paid of for them again with 2 goals in as many minutes to win the game 4-3.

WICKERSLEY YOUTH 2 - 2 NORTON LEES JFC
After the first two games of the season were cancelled the season finally got underway at Wickersley Youth who were relegated from the A league last season.
The first half saw Norton Lees looking a bit rusty and with Wickersley having a Leigh Bromby in their team went into half-time 2-nil up, both goals from throw ins.
The second half was a different affair with Norton Lees closing down a lot quicker and being on the front foot. This finally resulted in two second half goals coming from debutants Vinny Roberts and Gregory Whittle. This gave Norton Lees a satisfactory 2-2 draw.
